Takeuchi Naoko
Takeuchi Naoko was born on March 15, 1967 in Yamanashi
Prefecture. Even though she took Pharmacy as her college course, it didn't stop
her from pursuing her dreams of becoming a mangaka. While she was still in
Kyoritsu Yakka University in 1986, she made her debut as mangaka with "Love
Call", which received the Nakayoshi New mangaka award. It was published in
Nakayoshi Deluxe in September 1986.
After graduating, she took a job as a licensed
pharmacist at Keio hospital. Although she was working full time, her old
editor (not Osa-P) encouraged her to continue drawing manga. Eventually, Osa-P
became her editor and together they created a lot of manga including "The Cherry
Project". After that, Takauchi-sensei wanted to make "fighting magical girls for
love and justice", and so "Codename wa Sailor V" was created.
"Codename wa Sailor V" was so popular that Kodansha and
Toei struck a deal with Takeuchi-sensei to create the manga simulatneously with
the Anime. It was supposed to be called "Bishoujo Senshi Sailor V", but she
and Osa-P decided to model the anime on the five soldier action figures that is
common in Japan. And so "Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon" was born, serialized in
Nakayoshi in Febuary 1992 and aired as anime in March 7,1992. It was so popular
that it was aired in several foreign countries shortly after its debut.
She is now married to Togashi Yoshihiro who's also a
famous mangaka like her. She is currently helping her husband with "Hunter X Hunter".
